Job Vacancy: Family Link Worker

Dublin Northwest Partnership is seeking to recruit one Full-Time Family Link Worker or two Part-Time Family Link Workers for a new Traveller Parent Support Project.

The Family Link Worker/s will join the Community Development Team which provides supports to Community Organisations, to Older People and to New Communities.

Location: Ballymun Area.

Work Schedule: Depending on suitable candidate’s circumstances, DNP is willing to offer this as a full time role (35 hours per week full-time) or as two part-time roles (17.5 hours part-time).

Salary: €36, 623 per annum- Officer Level 2 Point 2 (full-time) or €18,312 (part-time).

The Role: To build relationships of trust between the traveller community and local services (community, voluntary and statutory). The successful candidate will be trained as a facilitator in the Parents’ Plus Early Years programme with the aim of delivering this programme on an individual or group basis. Applications are particularly welcome from members of the Traveller Community.

General Responsibilities

  • To develop and maintain strong working relationships with the local Traveller Community.
  • To develop and support strong working relationships with and between local Traveller parents, Traveller organisations, Tusla, HSE and local community and voluntary organisations.
  • To train as a Facilitator in the Parents Plus Early Years Programme and other relevant Programmes and to co- deliver this programme to members of the Travelling Community.
  • To work with and encourage parents in local communities  to participate in parenting/family support Programmes as well as with education partners to support children to reach their full potential.
  • To encourage enrolment and engagement in Early Learning, particularly the two free-preschool years.
  • To promote the work of the Family Link Worker to Traveller families and to local Community, Voluntary and Statutory organisations.
  • To refer members of the Travelling Community internally to relevant DNP services and externally as appropriate.

Essential Requirements

  • An understanding of how to work with Traveller Communities in culturally appropriate ways.
  • Experience paid or voluntary, in working with the Traveller Community.
  • A good knowledge of family support and community development.
  • A general knowledge of computers and communication technology.
  • Experience of working as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • An ability to promote an understanding of Traveller Parenting experience within the partner agencies.
  • Capacity to work with people and communities to build on their strengths and capabilities.

Desirable

A qualification in a related field e.g. social care, youth work, community development.  Access to own transport.

Personal Attributes

  • Ability to work with other staff as part of a team and build relations both within the team and outside of the organisation.
  • Capacity to plan work, and complete tasks.
  • Solution focussed approach to problem solving.
  • Strong timekeeping, ability to meet deadlines and to commit to being a reliable member of a team.
